Young Carers at Greneway

At Greneway, we have a number of pupils that are young carers. Miss Scoot, Miss Ward and Mrs Linnane meet with them regularly on a Thursday afternoon 3.20-4.30pm, this gives the pupils an opportunity to have regular support as well as to socialise with other pupils in a similar situation to themselves.

Activities include:

  • Cooking
  • Dinner parties
  • Sewing
  • Ironing
  • ITC activities
  • Arts and crafts
  • Film evenings
  • Show and tell
  • Drama
You never know how strong you are until being strong is the only choice you have.
Quote by Bob Marley, selected by KS3 Young carer

Is your child a young carer?

They are a carer if they provide help and support, unpaid, to a family member, friend or neighbour who would otherwise not be able to manage.

The person they care for may have a physical or learning disability, dementia, mental health problems, may misuse drugs or alcohol or may be ill or frail.

The person may live with them or elsewhere, may be an adult or a child but if they rely on the pupil for support, then they are a carer.

Adapted from http://www.carersinherts.org.uk/how-we-can-help/are-you-a-carer

We are aware that many of the children at Greneway are caring people but to be deemed as a young carer they need to be giving support above and beyond the usual expectation .

If you think your child would benefit from the support of the young carers group at Greneway please speak to your child’s form tutor or contact Miss Scoot or Miss Ward.

“Young Carers is a club every Thursday after school, where we sit down and express how you feel and who you care for. You can also talk to Miss Ward and Miss Scoot in private if you want…”

Further support, for pupils and their families, can be found at http://www.carersinherts.org.uk/how-we-can-help/young-carers
